During your freebirth pregnancy, you want to protect your pregnancy bubble at all costs.  

The last thing you want is to tell the wrong person and be bombarded with fear or judgements from other people who don’t understand your choice to freebirth.  

This leads to fear that you take on and a lot of stress and worry about something you have already decided is in the best interests of you and your baby.  

In this article, I am going to share some ways that you can protect your pregnancy bubble so that you can focus on a positive & calm pregnancy leading up to your freebirth.

1.  Be mindful of who you share your freebirth plans with 

As mentioned before the last thing you want to do is tell the wrong people of your freebirth plans.  

Freebirth isn’t a normalised choice in many societies since hospital birth became the popular trend in recent years.  

Homebirth is already taboo, let alone birthing without a medical person present.  

Many people fear what they do not know or understand.   

Not to mention that one in three women will experience birth trauma – and in many cases this is due to the hospital system and the people who work within this system.  

When sharing your freebirth plans with people remember that you don’t owe anyone privy information into your birth and choices.   

If you want to tell people in your circle, make sure that you tell people who you feel will be supportive, understanding & open minded.

2.  Don’t let in negative birth stories 

In the perfect world during pregnancy, you wouldn’t see or hear any negative birth stories.  

Unfortunately, it’s almost impossible to remove yourself from hearing a bad part of birth or hearing a glimpse into a story – especially if you are on social media.  

The best thing to do is remove yourself from spaces where negative birth stories are often shared.  Stay in groups with trigger warnings and don’t read stories you don’t feel you can read.  

If you do hear a negative birth story that makes you questions your choice to freebirth look for evidence to answer your questions about that story.  

 

  • Was it caused by an intervention?
     
  • Do you need to learn more about the thing that is worrying you? (for example you may see a rupture story in a VBAC group – so you could research VBAC’s and understand signs of rupture to make you feel more prepared and confident).
     

3.  Work on your mindset 

Your mind really is one of the most powerful things you can harness in preparation for your freebirth.   

If you doubt your ability or waiver, chances are that you will waiver during your freebirth.  

Focusing on a daily mindset ritual will help you to strengthen your mindset and your desire to freebirth the way you want.  

A couple of daily practices you could do: (pick one or two) 

 

  • Daily journal – writing your thoughts out each day can be therapeutic and calming.  It can give you insight into how you feel or think and help you seek out answers.
     
  • Daily Meditation – I think we are all across the board on how beneficial meditation is – not only can it help you feel calm and relaxed, it can help you connect in with your intuition and body.
     
  • Positive affirmations – the power of repetition and saying something to yourself daily has huge impacts on the body and mind.  Try by repeating a mantra or affirmation 50 times daily so that you truly believe it.  It could be as simple as saying – My body was made to birth my baby safely.

Have trusted friends or support to support you

If you are a bit like me, you may find that you work through things best by being able to talk to someone and let it all out.  

You can have regular check in’s with a close friend or family member who is supportive, a doula who will be attending your birth or a mentor like me who can hold space so you feel heard, supported & seen.  

Sometimes it’s just nice to have a cuppa and have a good old chat!

 

The Final Thought: 

Protect your pregnancy freebirth bubble at all costs and always be mindful about the type of content you consume or the people you share your plans with.  

Unfollow pages/ groups/ take a step back from people who are not positive & supportive.  

This is your time to focus on building up your confidence and relax before your baby is born and joins you earthside.
